Locking down Facebook and other Social Media

Facebook and Other Social Media

The more social we become on social media the more our privacy and security are at risk. Take for instance a Facebook or Social media friend “checks in” 600 miles from his home, and his previous post was at a kennel. Really? If his posts are public, he just advertised “no ones home come get my stuff”.

Privacy on Facebook, etc.

There is a saying I have “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”. First things first, the second you click to agree on the End User License Agreement (EULA) to ANY free social media sites, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and even email, you just threw Privacy out the window. Period!

Don’t get upset Facebook took your likes, dislikes, post, relationships, pictures, private messages, and sold it to advertisers, or almost anyone who will to pay because you agreed to it in the EULA. But Facebook isn’t the only one doing this, all the social media site listed above do the same thing. Think about it, someone post a picture and comment about a shirt they just purchased and you click “like”. In Facebook or any social media eyes, you just told them you like that brand of shirts, They sale that information to a shirt retailer and the next think you know there are ads all over the place for that shirt.

Don’t even get me started on politics, remember the like button, use it on a political post, you just told social media your political affiliation.

Facebook and other social media Security

Do you know the security questions linked to the email account you used to setup your social media accounts like Facebook? Let me list some common ones:

  • What’s your mothers maiden name?
  • What city were you born in?
  • What’s your favorite pets name?

Where can you find the answers? Facebook and social media.

Mom’s today include there maiden names on social media to help people from high school or long distance friend find them. Mom’s also join there children on Social media and Facebook. All your Facebook friends can see what city you were born in and believe it or not Facebook friends name their pets, their favorite pets name!

80% of Facebook users will accept a friend request from someone they have no earthly idea who they are, 80% wow. So if I send out a friend request to 100 random people, I’m going to get as much as 80 new friends. Sweet, let the hacking began!
